Allan’s trip to Norway in January!

feb16e1

Allan decided sometime ago to do what many of us would not, go snorkeling in northern Norway in January, why?! At one of the DEMA shows in Vegas he visited the Waterproof wetsuit stand and met up with long time friend Goran Ehlme who is a wild life photographer and does work for National Geographic, Swedish and other TV companies on wild life in the arctic and Antarctic. Goran (one of the owners of Waterproof) mentioned that Waterproof had a separate company called Waterproof Expeditions and was offering expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctic regions to snorkel and dive with Orca, Leopard seals, visiting penguin colonies, ice mountains and more. So of course this was a challenge that seemed to good to miss! Allan booked the Orca trip to Norway and on January 23 Allan was onboard the live-aboard for a week of fun (cold) with what was an amazing experience, a part of the world like no other he had visited with beautiful snow cover mountains sailing through the fiords of Norway, northern lights and Orca and humpback whales every day, some snorkeling and other times spent cruising the fiords looking at humpbacks and orca traveling and feeding. One exceptional experience was when being out on the zodiac following a pod of about seven humpback when one decided to breach completely out of the water, but not once, 34 to 37 (depending on who you ask) times one after the other. And what a camera opportunity this was, except Allan’s camera was stuck and not one photo to show for it! You can see lots of photos (not Allan’s) on Facebook about this amazing adventure. If you should be interested, go to waterproof-expeditions.com. Allan has booked the Antarctic for February 2017 to dive with the Leopard seals, should you be interested, contact Allan at allan@asiadivers.com

Sea Base Life

feb16b3

This blog is about interesting sea life that has been sent to us by SeaLifeBase. The one is about “Ocean Giants: Nomura’s jellyfish”. Please see: http://sealifebaseproject.blogspot.com/2015/03/ocean-giants-nomuras-jellyfish.html

All you underwater photographers out there….Become a SeaLifeBase collaborator. Please see below:
WHAT is a “SeaLifeBase collaborator,” and WHO can be one?

In a nutshell, SeaLifeBase collaborators are the people who help us by: a) sending or alerting us to references and photos, which we have not yet used; b) assembling data from published sources using a preformatted template; and/or c) verifying or correcting data that we have extracted and incorporated into the information system.  Some of them are — but not limited to — biologists, taxonomists, scientists, and other experts.  Some are aquarists, photographers, businessmen, and marine-life enthusiasts.  Truly, we welcome contributions from anybody who has a passion for marine life.

From Russia with love…

Allan and Alli have returned from the Moscow Dive show, meeting some old friends and new friends. The Crocodile Dive Club which is one of the largest dive Clubs in Moscow celebrated their 20th anniversary and if you look very closely in the photo you see that Alli, Allan and Slava (who has been here several times) were there too. Many thanks to Alexey  Stoyda who showed us around and to Alexandra Zamanaeva from the Crocodile Club for making sure we had a great time that night at the party.

Welcome back to our friends from California!

It’s always a great time when Kathy Peper from “Get Wet Scuba” returns. Kathy has been here several times over the past years and we are always very happy to see her again with a group of her followers! The gang had a wonderful week with us enjoying all the beauty of Puerto Galera and finishing the week off with a great day at Verde Island followed by a sunset cruise to Talipanan. Thank you Kathy for all your support over the years!
