Happy birthday Curt…ya dumb whore!
What a way to start on your 50th year! The birthday boy, Curt went out on a nice morning dive and came back to the whole resort decorated for his 50th birthday. (Included were many old photos of Curt as a wee lad and even some of those scary 70’s photos!) Happy 50th Birthday Curt….ya dumb whore!! His friends Steve and Chuck made sure everyone knew…
End of Movember
And so Movember came to an end in the point bar on the 30th with Ferg, Wayne, Josh, Jamie, Brad, Pete and Troy getting together for a few drinks to compare their mo’s.
You can decide who grew the best mo, and if you look really close…. Yes, Wayne dose have a mo! Most important was why they grew them. Movember is an official charity that raises awareness and money for prostate cancer; the guys at Asia Divers managed to do both and had a bit of a laugh doing so.
Having a shave in the point after a few beers with the smallest mirror you can find can be a bit dangerous!
The end product ………..
Aussie Fundraiser success!
It’s been almost ten months since Tommy and Allan took off for the Aussie Fundraiser ride around Australia. With five underwater and beach clean ups scheduled, a presentation booked for a ODEX (a Brisbane Dive show) and a promise of a BBQ at PADI in Sydney to celebrate the end of the ride, they managed to raise close to US$17,000 for two very special charities, PADI Project Aware in the fight against and awareness of Ocean Debris and The Springboard Foundation supporting the Mango, Cashew and Grapevine projects (http://ascf.ph/) in the area of Payatas Dump Site.
On Saturday night, Craig Burrow from the ASCF the people behind the Mango, Cashew and Grapevine project, along with Peter the manager of Mango (formally a street child who grew up and educated by ASCF at the Mango house) Annette Helbig creator of Springboard, (http://www.springboard-foundation.org/) Sarah who represents many charities and social clubs in Manila including Springboard and ASCF along with Sarah husband, Ham joined us as Asia Divers and El Galleon resort handed over the cheque to Annette of Springboard.
We look forward to working with these charities offering our support to some very worthwhile projects. If you have just a few minuets, take the time to visit their websites, (http://ascf.ph/ http://www.springboard-foundation.org/)

Asia Divers crew Discover Scuba
Since it was a bit quiet last week we had a day of discovering scuba for some of our dive center crew. Ferdi, Jeric, Erwin and Francis enjoyed the experience and now have a better understanding of why so many folks come from all over the world to dive here.
Divers for Operation Smile.
Last week some doctors visited Provincial Hospital in Calapan to carry out
Surgery on children with Harelip. Though the actual surgery is free it is always expenses around such transport cost for parent and the child, food and others. Tommy & Lina Soderstrom, Göran Ritter and Rudy Schmiedel decide to chip in some money to help some of the kids who’s parent can’t afford these expenses. Giving 5,000 pesos each we thought it would be good for 3 kids including medicine but Lina managed the money so it was good enough for 4 children! Two got the operation to close the gap in the gum so they can speak properly and two children got their lips rebuilt. Angie Robles from our accounting office and our Instructor Allison Manis also helped by donating milk for these children as they obviously only could take fluid after the operation.

Aussie Fund Raiser End of Ride
October 13
It was a great morning, sunshine, clam sea and we decided on a breakfast to wait for the dive centres to open before we could visit them. We took a leisurely ride around town, up to the lighthouse and after we visited who we had to see it was time to head off to New Castle and down to Sydney, stopping along the way and taking in the last of our ride. It was [more]
Sydney Ride part 2 – Ride Report #30
October 12
Left around 7am for Coffs Harbour to meet up with the Jetty Dive team.
Meeting Mick, the first thing he wanted to show us was his boat, we had
talked about this boat and I was excited to see it myself. As time was a bit
short we could not go out for a dive, but a quick look was clearly a must.
Meeting up with the boat on his dry dock, looking at it he said, are you
sure you don¹t want to go for a spin! I could not resist and we all stood [more]
At Odex & Devocean Dive Cleanup – Ride Report #28
October 7, 8 & 9
Its been three days of fun here in Brisbane and the Gold Coast. Leaving Eric’s home on the Sunshine Coast, Friday afternoon after a great lunch at the Edge Café Montville we headed off to Brisbane. Finding our home for the next three nights and meeting up with Matt Carter (our flat mate) we went to register and see what was happening at the ODEX dive show, where I would give a presentation on the Saturday, about our ride around Australia. That night we orientated ourselves to Brisbane, had a few beers with the exhibitors before calling it a night. [more]
