On the run

Look who took part in The 10K Milo Marathon held at Mall of Asia last Sunday. Allan, Rhuby, Kjell, and Paul all did the 10K. Wayne, Yumi, Oste and Sue did the 5K. A total of 37,060 runners/walkers took part. It was a great event and we can be sure to see them all out there doing it again, soon.

Fiesta time in Sabang

It’s fiesta time again! So we have our fair share of entertainment marching right past El galleon resort. Every year in the Philippines every local municipality (Barungay) has a fiesta for the locals. It’s a very interesting time for our guests to experience some of the local traditions, such as the marching band above, who march up and down the beach all day long. They sound very lively in the morning, but by the afternoon like a New Orleans Funeral. Very lovely and funny!

El Galleon hosts the Classic Club’s 1000th Lunch

The Classic Club Lunch #1 started Sunday 2nd October 1994. It was started by Roscoe Thompson, Trevor Griffith and David Austin. Back then, the main purpose of starting the Classic Club was to get half a day off work. 🙂 There were only 5 in attendance on Classic Club Lunch #1, within a few weeks it has quickly grown to averaging 30 Clubbers each week. One of the biggest successes back then and still today, was to bring so many different nationalities together at the one table for some fine dining and wines.

There were 96 Clubbers present at the 1000th Classic Club Lunch at El Galleon Resort on Thursday 24th April with continuous prizes and raffles happening between the superb 8 course lunch which was made possible in a most professional way thanks to the El Galleon Staff.
Wines for the day were sponsored very kindly by Future Trade Inc. Manila.

“The Classic Club wishes to thank the Management and Staff of El Galleon Resort for making our 1000th Classic Club Lunch such a memorable day.”

“Stairway to Hell” record broken!

It was just another regular night up in the bar, until “It” came out to play…”The Stairway to Hell” was set up and ready to go and Ferg was up for the challenge…

Going…going…

Gone… in 11 seconds!!! Congratulations Ferg, who actually managed to keep it all in for a few seconds too. So who’s going to try to beat that? Will Clark has held the record for a long time now, but we understand he is back here in September…hmmmmmm

School group visit

We had a group of local school kids come over for a visit and a tour around the resort. Doing tours like this shows the kids many the possibilities for their future careers and also gives them a good understanding on why so many people from all over the world come to their country on holidays and how important it is to conserve the beauty of the Philippines. We take pride in educating the future generation on conservation issues and teaching them the importance of keeping the environment (both land and sea) clean.

Perhaps some future Divemasters here!

The kids loved watching Antoine make a pizza.

Swedes with stuff

Thanks to Pia Carlsson for bringing her group of divers from the Eskilstuna Dive center in Sweden.

This group did a very wonderful thing too. They brought with them a large amount of toys, clothing and even toothbrushes that we will distribute to those in need. It was very king of them to this as it must have surely stretched all their weight allowances on the airplane. We’ll keep you posted on where all the stuff went.

A great week with the British International School, HCMC Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Doing a school trip to El Galleon Resort in Puerto Galera is more than just diving. We also like to get the kids involved with the community in some way. This group of fifteen kids and two teachers went to visit one of our local schools to do presentations on marine conservation. They prepared presentations combined with games and themed on looking after the environment. It was a very educational experience for all of us and the best part was that it was good fun too!

Typhoon Relief

If you look closely at the sign you’ll see “Asia Divers” in the top corner. This photo was sent to us from Evolution Divers in Malapascua for our help with the typhoon relief fund for their area. So far, between us and a few other dive shops here we have sent more than $27,000 USD to Malapascua to help them out. There will be more of an update of what some of your donations have been doing sent out very soon. We thank everyone who has donated to this worthy cause.
